today. has come and gone. it is my 40th day without scrolling down facebook, or engaging social media for that matter. i also ignored my phone most the morning, and didn't open my computer till after the kids were in bed. and althougth i may have missed some laughs or opportunities to encourage a friend or offer support, i know i lived today well. at least i lived my one life well.
and honestly, that has been my journey since that weekend tucked away in colorado at sally clarksons house around the theme of 'owning your life.' i struggle to embrace my life. my husband. as wonderful but full of flaws as he is. my 4 kids. as creatively beautiful and sinful as they are. my house. my spiritual life, my dyslexic self, my beautiful, messy life.
but honestly i can say i am growing into it. bit by bit. i am determined not to MISS my ONE life. and so, after the crazy last minute gift from a dear friend, kristen kill to take her ticket to allume and hear an author who has shaped my life tremendously, ann voskamp i have decided to re-join the writing world and call it A One Piece Life in honor of ann who taught me that all is sacred and all is ordinary. i will learn how to attach links one day here and be able to link you to her wonderful writing about a one piece life so you can fully know what that means.
because honestly, there are many things i want to do with my life and many things that look like open doors and i want to do them all! with gusto! yet, yet as i jump off the 'do to be' and always know what 'she' is up to or doing through social media i am falling in love with my little life and the story i have to live that no one else can. i mean, these people in my world, tucked under cozy sheets under my roof...yall they are precious and they are demanding and they are looking for heros and being formed each day. and this husband, he is weary of life out in working world, on the road, putting out fires and breaths deep in this beauty haven i have created. this is holy ground here yall.
so why run to broken cisterns that do not satisfy. why look to others lives when it is my own that beckons my attention.
so today...
i made a mac-daddy smoothie breakfast for my crew and read beautiful poetry.
i sat for an hour with my oldest student outlining a story on the Vikings, crafting sentences, talking clincher sentences and then reviewing prepositions.
i snuggled and read a delightful fall book to my 7 & 4 year old girls.
i breathed through a million and two dishes on the counter and listened to my crew chatter while doing an art project with only an occasional fuss.
i let my bigger kids go cuddle on my bed with my youngest watching Stewart Little 2 in the middle of the school day and then went and cuddled up with them.
i explored geography maps with wipey markers- found all the european mountains, citys and such.
i went on a bike ride with all 4 of my ducklings- squealed delight down the big hills, felt the wind in my hair, and got my heart rate up.
i took a nap...alone.
i guided my 2 men cubs through their laundry process since today is their day. which ended with all their clothes folded & in their drawers.
i got to sit at my nutrition class for an hour while they played and then shop at my new favorite store.
so why write. why pick up the blogging...again. because it matters...this story father is writing. and i don't want to forget. i want to be able to remember what he has done in my life as i have cried out to him in the darkest of nights. closer than a mother hen this jesus is tenderly caring for me. feeding me solid food. wooing me close to her breast. one day at a time. and it matters. so i will write.
